Santana Golf course

Santana is a relatively new course to the coast but is proving very popular. It's designer Cabell B Robinson has managed to find a good balance for holiday golf . A decent length at 6028 m, wide fairways and easy terrain make it quite a high scoring course.

Although a new course the greens are in very good condition and many of the original older trees have been kept to give a feeling of maturity. The course has a number of water hazards which adds difficulty to some holes, especially the 2nd,15th and 16th . Some of the holes are a little cramped so just be careful of any wayward balls on some of the fairways.

The course at points borders the new La Cala Euorpa course, but is nowhere as hilly.

The course is a little unusual in that the 18th is handicap 1, a long par 5 with water on the right and a tough approach to the green so don't expect to make a last minute charge.

Try the 2nd for nearest to the pin and the 10th for the longest drive.

The 4th hole is my favourite where a good tee shot is important, for a good position for your second shot to clear the water hazard to get the tucked away green or lay up and chip on.

The course has good access from La Cala and Fuengirola.

The course is quite an easy walk and there is a drinks buggy.

The shower facilities are adequate though like the bar a bit small which lets the club down a little.

If you can't find room on the bars' terrace La Cala village is a short drive away where Mulligan's Irish pub does a good pint.
