Monte Mayor Golf Club

Pics Of Monte-Mayor-Golf-Club

A bit of a run out of Marbella the course is great fun if you're playing in a group. Built up in the hills it has some amazing views and some amazing holes. As a general rule people we speak to either love it or hate it.

All we can say is make sure you take plenty of spare balls and your sense of humour.

The first nine is very tight though the back nine does open up a bit, and really to appreciate the course you need to play it a couple of times.

It's very much a thinking course so careful on what holes you're taking the drive out as accuracy is often more important than length on this course.

For nearest the pin depending on your standards, choose either the first or second par 3 on the first nine - both are all carry to the green, if you don't hit the green you're not in play - the second par 3 is a good medium to long iron depending on the wind. The 18th is a short par 3 with a bird's eye view of the green but this may be a bit late in the round for fun.

It's not the best course to play a longest drive competition as there are not that many straight holes. For a laugh maybe try the 16th where the big hitters are tempted to go over the ravine to the slopping fairway.

All the par 3 are great if your hitting the greens. The par 4's are relatively short but require some good touches to get to the green in regulation. Our favourite hole is the Par 5 4th which requires some nifty iron shots and not too long a tee short or you'll lose your ball down the ravine.

Under local rules a lot of trouble is classed as water hazards to allow you a penalty drop, check this with the club.

If you are having a bad day we suggest you put a few cold beers in the buggy's cool box and enjoy the views - remember tomorrow's another day and another course.

The course is very steep so a buggy is recommended.

Montemayor has a nice chilled out club house and courtyard bar area with a relaxed atmosphere. The showers are good but a little small compared to some of the other clubs. Due to the access road keep some extra travelling time.
